Getting it wrong: “If more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims.”

Getting it right: Jesus said, “Put away your sword.” Matthew 26:52

Jerry Falwell Jr., chancellor and president of Christian school Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, recently addressed the student body saying, “If more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walk in and kill…Let’s teach them a lesson if they ever show up here.”

Currently, 950 people at the school already have permits, and hundreds more are now signing up. The university is also permitting guns in its dormitories.

Reactions have been swift and strong. In an open letter, students at Wheaton College, a Christian school in Wheaton, Illinois, wrote, “The negative impact of this was so egregious, we had the moral obligation to clarify…We reject the ideology espoused by Chancellor Falwell in his recent remarks to the Liberty student body, and we invite you to stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters who share our human dignity.”

The students went on to say, “As students we are truly countercultural. For our self-defense, our protector is God and we should rely on that first and foremost.”
