Getting it wrong: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

Getting it right: When you mock God, shouldn’t someone make you ashamed?
(Job 11:3)

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was founded in 2005 to mock God and ridicule intelligent design theories. The church members are called “Pastafarians.” They wear clothing that looks like pirate outfits and colanders on their heads. They partake in communion of spaghetti and meatballs.

Founder Bobby Henderson states, “With millions, if not thousands, of devout worshippers, the Church of the FSM is widely considered a legitimate religion, even by its opponents—mostly fundamentalist Christians, who have accepted that our God has larger balls than theirs.”

Mr. Henderson should be ashamed.

No one makes a fool of God. “Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God.” Gal. 6:7(NLT) “Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! Their words are poisonous, fouling the air.” Ps. 14:1 (NLT, MSG)

“They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and the sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God…Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. Refusing to know God, they soon don’t know how to be human either…Look at them: mean-spirited, venomous, fork-tongued God-bashers. Bullies, swaggers, insufficient windbags!…Stupid, slimy, cruel, cold-blooded…They know perfectly well they’re spitting in God’s face. And they don’t care…” Rm. 1:19-20;22-23;29-32 (NLT, MSG)

“Their response to God’s yes or no will become public knowledge on the judgment day when God makes his final decision about every man and woman—that day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone…” Rm. 2:16 (NLT,MSG)
