Power

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. (Abraham Lincoln)

Earlier, the ancient philosopher Plato said, “The measure of a man is what he does with power.” But, as Lord Acton observed, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” It’s a problem we’ve seen displayed publicly much too often. Pastor Chuck Swindoll suggests a solution, “With authority [power] comes the need for accountability.”

I will hold my people accountable for their sins, and I will punish them. (Hosea 8:13)
