People tend to find their identity in a variety of ways. Seeing the eccentric dress and actions of fans at athletic events, you identify them with their special team. Young people often identify with entertainment stars, imitating them in dress and behavior. Those temporary identities fade with time, so it’s important to identify with something (someone) of lasting significance.
So God created human beings in his own image (Genesis 1:27). Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people (1 Peter 2:10).
