The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature, and God. (Anne Frank, from her World War II diary)
You can easily understand how Anne Frank, a house-bound victim of war, could appreciate going outside. She must have remembered more pleasant days when, as a young girl, she had the freedom to enjoy nature. Living in a cramped attic with family and other refugees surely gave her an appreciation for being alone, too. A lesson for all of us: enjoy your freedoms now.
For you have been called to live in freedom . . . But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13)
