A Lasting Legacy

To set an example, and when he is dead to be an inspiration for history–that’s all a man can hope for during his lifetime. (Rephrasing of William McKinley, 25th U.S. president)

We may wish we could make some great contribution to society—a generous philanthropic gift, a Nobel prize-winning study, or a new song or poem of fame. Probably the best we can hope for, as McKinley suggests, is to be a consistent example of integrity and honesty. That in itself will be a worthy inspiration we can leave as a legacy to our family and community.

Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)
